Dear Women,
Good afternoon (or morning depending on where you are) – it’s been a rough weekend for NYC and a dismal start to the week. But that perceived negativity got me thinking. Thinking about, for lack of better terminology – trade-offs. You see, NYC can be tough, the people are kind of shitty, winter is a bear, and if you’re looking for people to smile, say ‘thank you’ and ‘I’m sorry’ you are truly shit outta luck. However, that comes with the trade-off that it is one of the most unique and cool places on earth. That it fosters people’s individuality without a care for what the rest of the population thinks. Also, some of the best food in the world – not really sure how that fits in but I’m sure there’s a link somewhere. π
This got me thinking… I’m from NY, I’ve accepted this crazy, ridiculous and often over-bearing place as my home and I love it. We seem to always bitch about the city, its prices, it’s hustle-bustle lifestyle etc. but I don’t think we take enough time to realize that those “down-sides” are part of what makes this city wonderful and unique.
The same is true of you. You are a collection of absolutely amazing qualities, and some qualities that perhaps you have, would, or wish to change. I struggled for a long time with my personal character flaws and it took a lot of reflection, thought, help from my wife, and is still in process for me to start accepting them. I wish for you the same journey.
It’s tough to be one with the fact that we have flaws that we’re not happy with or proud of – but they make you who you are. And as I’ve stressed often in the past, you wake up every morning as the most perfect version of yourself. You might strive to make yourself better, but you, as a woman, as you are right now, reading this post, are perfect just the way you are. And that isn’t because of all your great qualities, it’s because of the amalgamation and acceptance of both your good and “less good” personality traits and habits. They make you, you. They make you, unique. And that makes your beautiful.
I know it’s hard, but embrace those parts of yourself as they have helped to build up other great parts of you that you might not even be aware of are connected (like the great food and shitty people of NYC).
Smile at yourself extra long in the mirror today and be proud of who you are, inside, outside, upside and down. Work on and fix what you want, but you’ll never be more perfect then when you realize that you’ve been that way the whole time. π
Much Love, Smile On.
Sincerely,
Hopeless Romantics
